What this bill would do
The 6PPD Task Force Act establishes a task force to address the impacts of the chemical 6PPD and its by-product 6PPD-Q on the environment and coho salmon. The bill seeks to promote research and funding opportunities for finding an alternative to 6PPD. This task force will be established by the Secretary of Transportation in consultation with the EPA through an agreement with the National Academy of Sciences. The task force is charged with identifying potential impacts, recommending funding, and sharing best practices for mitigation. Additionally, the group will investigate various pathways of 6PPD exposure, such as through the reuse of tires.
