What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Next Gen Road Safety Act," proposes an amendment to the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. It seeks to change how COPS grants can be used by law enforcement agencies. Specifically, the bill would authorize these grants to be used for the procurement of certain equipment. This equipment is intended to help agencies prevent and de-escalate high-speed vehicular pursuits. Examples of such equipment include vehicle-disabling systems, police bumper systems, and drones.
