What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Rural ER Access Act," directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to change specific Medicare regulations. The goal is to remove the current rule that requires an off-campus facility or organization to be within a 35-mile radius of a hospital or critical access hospital. This change would apply to the requirements for meeting provider-based status eligibility. The Secretary must complete this revision within 60 days of the Act being enacted.
