What this bill would do
The Rare Earth Magnet Market Revitalization Act aims to prohibit the importation of certain rare earth magnets and components from covered nations. This bill seeks to address vulnerabilities in supply chains for commercial and military products caused by market manipulation. To support this, the Secretary of Commerce can provide financial assistance through offtake agreements or price guarantees to entities investing in production outside of covered nations. The Act also allows for the regulation of electronic waste exports to encourage domestic recycling of rare earth magnets. Certain exceptions and waivers may be granted by the Secretary of Commerce based on availability or national interest. The limitations on imports are set to apply one year after the Act is enacted.
