What this bill would do
The Invest in Rural Teachers Act directs the Secretary of Education to establish a grant program aimed at supporting teachers in rural schools. Under this act, the Secretary will provide grants to States, which can then distribute subgrants to eligible entities. These funds are intended to pay signing and retention bonuses to individuals hired to teach in rural schools. To receive the bonus, a teacher must agree to teach in a rural school for a period of three school years. The bill authorizes $500,000,000 for each fiscal year from 2027 through 2030.
