What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Federal Workforce Civics Competency and Accountability Act," seeks to amend title 5 of the United States Code. It would require Federal civilian career employees to pass a citizenship test as a condition of their employment. The requirement applies to individuals seeking appointment to the competitive service or as career appointees. It also requires current career employees to take the test within one year of the Act's enactment. Furthermore, employees would be required to take the test on an annual basis.
