What this bill would do
The Hope Heals Act of 2026 directs the Secretary of Health and Human Services to assess how Executive departments handle mental health crisis prevention and awareness. This assessment includes looking at how departments coordinate to identify people in crisis and how they share information regarding suicide prevention and mental health support. The Secretary is also tasked with looking into the distribution of screening tools to increase awareness of crisis signs. To complete this, the Secretary will coordinate with various department heads and may consult with experts or academic institutions. Finally, the Secretary must submit a report of the findings and recommendations to appropriate congressional committees.
