What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Protecting Military Readiness from Offshore Wind Industrialization Interference Act," requires a certification process regarding offshore wind projects. The President or a designee must certify that these projects in the North Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic Planning Areas will not interfere with military radar, sonar, or combat, training, and rescue capabilities. If this certification cannot be made, the President is directed to halt projects that present a threat to national security. Additionally, the Department of Defense Inspector General is tasked with conducting a comprehensive study on the effects of offshore wind industrialization. This study covers impacts on military, FAA, NASA, and Maritime Administration radar and sonar, as well as the sufficiency of the project approval process. The Inspector General must submit a report of these findings to Congress within 180 days of the Act's enactment.
