What this bill would do
The Thiokol Memorial Gold Medal Act aims to award a Congressional Gold Medal to the 30 fallen patriots of the Thiokol plant. These individuals died due to a catastrophic explosion in 1971 and a separate explosion in 1973 while manufacturing essential munitions. The bill recognizes their sacrifice and contribution to the Nation during the Vietnam War. The Speaker of the House and the President pro tempore of the Senate will arrange for a single gold medal to be struck. This medal will be given to the Thiokol Memorial Museum for display and research. Additionally, the Secretary of the Treasury may strike and sell bronze duplicates to cover costs.
