What this bill would do
The "Bitcoin for America Act" seeks to allow taxpayers to pay Federal taxes using Bitcoin. Under this bill, the Secretary of the Treasury would oversee the acceptance of these payments, which can be transferred directly to a designated network address or through a third-party financial agent. The Bitcoin received from these tax payments must be deposited into a new Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. The Secretary is authorized to manage the custody and security of this reserve, including the use of cold storage. To ensure long-term holding, the bill restricts the sale or disposal of the reserve's Bitcoin for a 20-year period.
