What this bill would do
The "Leveraging Aerial Systems for Stewardship Operations (LASSO) Act" directs the Secretary of the Interior to create a grant program. From 2026 through 2030, $100,000 will be allocated annually for pilot projects. These projects will test using unmanned aerial systems to gather and manage wild horses and burros humanely. Grants will go to organizations and higher learning institutions with drone expertise and a commitment to equine welfare. The program may also cover fertility control and herd-health efforts. Results must be reported to Congress and the public.
