What this bill would do
The Advocates for Families Act of 2025 seeks to amend the Social Security Act regarding child welfare services. It would require States to allow parents, foster parents, or legal guardians to seek and receive services from a family advocate. These advocates would have the authority to represent interests and act on behalf of the individual during child welfare cases or interactions. States would be required to implement standards for the professional conduct of these advocates. Additionally, States must inform families of these rights and available local resources from the start of a case. Finally, the Secretary must report on the impact of these rights to Congress.
