What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "MAP Roads Act," directs the Secretary of Transportation to create a pilot grant program. The program aims to fund the digitization of county roads and the creation of centralized, public road datasets. States can apply for these grants to support rural commerce, increase public safety, and improve navigation. The funds can be used to digitize official records, convert paper maps to digital formats, and train personnel. Participating states must also maintain a state repository for this data. The program is authorized for $20,000,000 annually from fiscal years 2026 through 2031.
