What this bill would do
This bill directs the Secretary of the Interior to create a competitive grant program for monitoring wildfires using satellite technology. The program requires the Secretary to award at least three grants to eligible entities within one year of enactment. These entities will use the funds to purchase high-resolution imaging and data from latest-generation satellites through public-private partnerships. The data will be used to detect, assess, respond to, and manage wildfires. The program focuses on monitoring fire behavior, managing prescribed fire treatments, and guiding post-fire risk assessment and disaster recovery. Finally, the Secretary must submit a report to Congress regarding the program's impact and effectiveness.
