What this bill would do
The "No Social Media at School Act" requires social media companies to use geofencing to block access to their platforms on K-12 education campuses. This restriction applies during the regular school day as determined by the local educational agency. However, the bill allows for push notifications regarding weather alerts, amber alerts, and other emergency responder uses for public safety. The bill also includes protections to ensure companies aren't forced to collect specific age data or implement age verification. Enforcement of these rules is handled by the Federal Trade Commission and State Attorneys General.
