What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Public Lands Military Readiness Act of 2025. It extends certain military land withdrawals in Alaska, New Mexico, and California for a period of 25 years. Specifically, it extends the withdrawals for the Yukon Training Area, Donnelly Training Area East, Donnelly Training Area West, and McGregor Range until November 6, 2051. It also extends the withdrawal for Fort Irwin military lands until December 31, 2051. Additionally, the bill makes technical corrections to the land descriptions for both the McGregor Range and Fort Irwin military lands.

Who it would affect, and how
Potential Positive Impacts for People
-
Section 2(b) corrects land descriptions for the McGregor Range military lands, changing the listed acreage from 608,385 acres to approximately 605,401 acres. This might be considered positive because it ensures official records accurately reflect the correct amount of land.
-
Section 2(b) updates the acreage for Fort Irwin military lands from 110,000 acres to 117,710 acres and updates the reference map date. This might be considered positive as it provides the public and officials with accurate and up-to-date documentation regarding the specific land areas involved.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- Section 2(a) extends the military withdrawal and reservation of specific lands in Alaska, New Mexico, and California until the year 2051. This might be considered a burden or negative because it keeps these public lands reserved for military use for another 25 years, restricting public access or alternative uses for those areas.
