What this bill would do
The "Imported Seafood Safety Standards Act" establishes the Inspection and Consumption of Shrimp and Shrimp Products Fund. This fund is financed by transferring amounts from the general fund of the Treasury that are equivalent to 70 percent of duties collected on certain shrimp imports. The money is split equally between two primary purposes. Half of the funds are directed to the Secretary of Health and Human Services for inspection and safety oversight of shrimp imports. The other half is directed to the Secretary of Agriculture to encourage domestic consumption of shrimp.
