What this bill would do
The Wildfire Grid Resiliency Act directs the Secretary of Energy to establish the "Resilience Accelerator Demonstration Program." This program will award funds to National Laboratories for projects demonstrating innovative technologies to improve electric grid resilience against wildfires. The projects can include monitoring vegetation management and enhancing the safety of first responders during electric grid emergencies. The bill authorizes $10,000,000 to be appropriated each fiscal year from 2026 through 2029 to carry out the program. The program is to be carried out through the Assistant Secretary of the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response of the Department of Energy. The bill defines "National Laboratory" and "resilience" by referencing existing sections in the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, respectively.
