What this bill would do
This bill is called the Sound Insulation Treatment Repair and Replacement Program Act. It requires the Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration to set up a pilot program at up to 4 large hub public-use airports. The program allows for a one-time waiver for projects to repair and replace sound insulation for certain residential buildings that previously received Federal assistance. To qualify, homes must meet specific noise level requirements and have old insulation installed before the year 2002 that caused damage or broke down. Additionally, the bill allows the government to cover the costs of periodic surveys of properties to check the effectiveness of the sound insulation.
