What this bill would do
This bill, titled the "Gun Violence Prevention Through Financial Intelligence Act," directs the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) to create an advisory regarding firearms and gun violence. The Director of FinCEN is required to request information from financial institutions to identify suspicious activity related to how domestic terrorists and homegrown violent extremists procure firearms and accessories. This process involves looking at how the firearms market is exploited to facilitate gun violence in the United States. The Director must consult with the FBI, the ATF, and firearm and accessory sellers before requesting information. Finally, the bill mandates the issuance of an advisory or a report to Congress if sufficient information cannot be collected.
