What this bill would do
The MAPS Act aims to improve federal coordination to identify and mitigate health and national security risks. The Secretary of Health and Human Services is tasked with maintaining an "Essential Medicines List" that includes drugs critical for responding to specific threats or those at high risk of shortage. The bill requires a comprehensive risk assessment of the supply chains for these essential medicines. Additionally, the Act mandates a system to map pharmaceutical supply chains using data analytics. This mapping includes everything from raw materials to finished products. Finally, the Secretary must coordinate with other federal agencies and industry stakeholders to monitor these vulnerabilities.
