What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Supporting the Abused by Learning Options to Navigate Survivor Stories Act or the SALONS Stories Act. It amends the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. The bill increases grants to combat domestic violence for States that add domestic violence prevention training to the licensing process for cosmetologists and barbers. This training must be online or in-person, at no cost, and provided by a nonprofit anti-domestic violence organization. The training focuses on recognizing signs, responding to signs, and referring clients to resources. The bill authorizes appropriations of $5,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2026 through 2032 to carry out this subsection.
