What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Sturgeon Conservation and Sustainability Act of 2025," proposes amendments to the Endangered Species Act of 1973. It specifically aims to allow certain activities regarding sturgeon held in captivity or controlled environments. The bill would exempt farmed sturgeon held in captivity and their progeny from certain existing restrictions. This exemption remains in place until the sturgeon is intentionally returned to a wild state. To ensure compliance, holders must be able to demonstrate the sturgeon's status and maintain specific records for the Secretary.
