What this bill would do
The Ukraine War Risk Insurance Act aims to provide temporary war risk insurance for certain commercial vessels involved in importing or exporting goods to and from Ukraine. This insurance eligibility lasts for five years starting from the date of enactment. The bill establishes the Insurance for Ukraine Initiative within the Department of State to support Ukraine's economic recovery and encourage investment from allies. It also seeks to ensure the affordable shipment of grain and food commodities from Ukraine through international cooperation. Additionally, the Secretary of State is tasked with providing diplomatic support to countries assisting with these insurance efforts. Finally, the U.S. will work through the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to develop a multilateral insurance mechanism for protecting commodity shipments.
