What this bill would do
The ACERO Act directs NASA to use its Advanced Capabilities for Emergency Response to Operations project to improve how we respond to wildfires from the air. The Administrator is tasked with using NASA-developed tools to research and develop technologies that assist in wildfire response efforts. This includes improving aircraft technology, data exchange, and coordination between different agencies. The Act allows for collaboration with various government and commercial partners. It also includes specific restrictions on purchasing unmanned aircraft systems from certain foreign entities. Finally, NASA must submit annual reports regarding these activities through the year 2030.
