What this bill would do
This bill, known as the ``Sovereign States Bureau of Prisons Restructuring Act of 2025'', directs the Attorney General to change how the Bureau of Prisons receives money. It requires the development of a plan to return funding levels to those seen in fiscal year 2019. The plan must restructure this funding so that 50 percent is converted into block grants given to the States. Additionally, 10 percent goes to the Department of Justice office that administers these grants, and another 10 percent goes to the Office of Inspector General for oversight. This entire plan must be implemented within one year of the Act's enactment.
