What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Astronaut Safe Temporary Ride Options Act or the ASTRO Act. It allows the government to provide transportation for federal officers and employees returning from space. This transport is allowed when it is needed for medical research, monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, or other official duties approved by the NASA Administrator. This applies before the individual receives official medical clearance to drive a motor vehicle themselves. The bill also requires NASA to submit annual reports to specific congressional committees detailing the transportation provided, the names of the individuals, and the associated costs. Finally, the bill states that no additional amounts are authorized to be appropriated to carry out the act.
