What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "Defend our Coast Act," proposes an amendment to the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. It seeks to withdraw the outer Continental Shelf in the Mid-Atlantic Planning Area from disposition. Specifically, it would prohibit the Secretary from issuing leases for the exploration, development, or production of oil or gas in that area. The Mid-Atlantic Planning Area is defined by the depiction in the 2024-2029 National Outer Continental Shelf Oil and Gas Leasing Proposed Final Program from September 2023.
