What this bill would do
The Selena Commemorative Coin Act requires the Secretary of the Treasury to mint and issue coins honoring music artist Selena Quintanilla. The bill includes three types of coins: $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half-dollar clad coins. These coins are to be issued during the 2029 calendar year and must feature designs emblematic of her life and accomplishments. The Secretary will select the designs after consulting with the Friends of the Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History. A portion of the sales through surcharges will support the museum's operations and a Selena exhibit. The Act ensures the program results in no net cost to the Federal Government.
