What this bill would do

This bill, known as the "MARALAGO Act," aims to prevent the President from personally profiting from Secret Service protection. It prohibits the use of Federal funds by the Director of the United States Secret Service to pay for or reimburse a President for lodging, meals, or office space at a presidential residence. The term "President" in this context includes former Presidents. While payments are prohibited, the bill does allow a President or their controlled entities to gift these expenses to the Secret Service.
