What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Healthy Foods for Native Seniors Act," directs the Secretary of Agriculture to establish a demonstration project. This project allows Tribal entities to enter into self-determination contracts to purchase agricultural commodities through the commodity supplemental food program. The Secretary must consult with Tribal entities to determine how they may participate. Selected entities must be successfully administering the food distribution program and have the capacity to purchase commodities. The project aims to facilitate the procurement of domestically produced agricultural commodities for Indian reservations.
