What this bill would do
The Checkpoint Modernization Act requires the renovation of specific U.S. Border Patrol checkpoints. The Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection is directed to prioritize projects that improve law enforcement safety, enhance detection of illegal goods, and reduce traffic congestion. To ensure accountability, the Commissioner must submit annual reports regarding the status and cost of these renovations. The bill authorizes at least $150,000,000 for each fiscal year from 2025 through 2028. Additionally, the act permanently rescinds certain unobligated funds previously allocated to the Environmental Protection Agency.
