What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Apprenticeship Opportunity Act," aims to change how eligibility is determined for assistance under the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. It requires states to disregard all income earned during the first year of an apprenticeship registered under the National Apprenticeship Act. If a state fails to follow this requirement, the Secretary shall reduce the state's grant for the following fiscal year by 1 percent. The changes take effect on the first day of the first Federal fiscal year starting after the act is enacted.
