What this bill would do
The "Hire Veterans Act" directs the Director of the Office of Personnel Management to create a pilot program to recruit and refer veterans for jobs within Federal land management agencies. This program aims to identify veterans with relevant strengths for various supervisory or nonsupervisory roles. The Director will establish the program in consultation with several cabinet secretaries. Participants may take specific tests to demonstrate their abilities for various career fields, such as firefighting or biology. Depending on test results, veterans may receive a noncompetitive appointment or be referred to agency training programs. The program is set to conclude five years after its establishment.
