What this bill would do
This bill is known as the Bone Marrow Radiation Shielding Act. It directs the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense, Policy and Programs to try to make an agreement with a specific type of research center. This research center must be affiliated with the United States Strategic Command. The purpose of the agreement is to carry out an independent scientific assessment. This assessment will look at whether using partial body radiation shielding to preserve bone marrow can improve survival for individuals exposed to gamma radiation. The findings must be submitted in a report to the Committees on Armed Services of the House of Representatives and the Senate not later than 150 days after the enactment of the Act.
