What this bill would do
This bill is called the EFIN Verification Act of 2026. It requires the validation of electronic filing identification numbers, known as EFINs, before they can be used to electronically file tax returns and other documents. The Secretary of the Treasury is directed to develop a validation program and a real-time validation system for these numbers. Electronic filing software must require EFIN validation prior to filing any returns or documents. The bill also authorizes the Secretary to disclose necessary information to specified validators to carry out this verification process.
