What this bill would do
This bill stops federal agencies from giving federal financial benefits for building, expanding, or substantially fixing up data centers on prime farmland and other certain farmland. The rule applies if this construction, expansion, or rehabilitation starts after the bill becomes law. Federal financial benefits include federal financial assistance, federal tax credits, tax deductions, federal accelerated depreciation allowances, federal transferable tax, or other federal financial benefits provided under federal law. Potential Positive Impacts for People
- Section 1(a): This provision stops federal agencies from providing federal financial benefits for building, expanding, or substantially fixing up data centers on prime farmland and other certain farmland. This is positive because it protects certain farmland from being used for these data centers using federal help.
Potential Negative Impacts for People
- Section 1(a) and Section 1(b): These provisions prohibit federal financial benefits, such as financial assistance, tax credits, tax deductions, accelerated depreciation allowances, and transferable taxes, for data centers built or expanded on specific farmland. This could be viewed as a negative outcome or burden for individuals or groups trying to build or expand data centers on that specific land because they will not get this federal help.
