What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Jobs, Not Waste Act of 2026," seeks to end the licensing process for the Yucca Mountain site. It repeals specific provisions of the Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 and Public Law 107-200. The Act terminates the application for a construction authorization for a repository at the Yucca Mountain site and prevents the Secretary of Energy from considering the site for a repository in the future. Additionally, the Secretary is tasked with reclaiming the site and mitigating environmental impacts from previous activities. Finally, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget must submit a study regarding the economic viability and job-creating potential of alternative uses for the site.
