What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "Cancer Research Trust Fund Act," aims to create a specific trust fund within the Treasury. The fund will be financed by appropriating ten percent of the total gross duties collected on imported tobacco and tobacco substitute articles each fiscal year. The Secretary of the Treasury will transfer these funds to the Secretary of Health and Human Services upon request. These funds are intended to support research and development for early cancer screening, prevention, treatments, and innovative therapies. The Secretary of Health and Human Services will coordinate this work with the Secretary of War acting through the Director of the Defense Health Agency. In conducting this research, priority must be given to rare cancers and cancers that affect pediatric populations.
