What this bill would do
This bill, known as the "DEPOTS Act," allows the Secretary of Defense to clear certain internal financial records. It specifically authorizes the elimination of depreciated costs or the cancellation of internal debts related to depots and arsenals. These actions apply to capital expenditures that no longer bring in revenue because of mission changes directed by the Federal Government. The authority is limited to financial balances within military departments or the Department of Defense. It does not apply to money owed to commercial contractors.
