What this amendment would do

Mr. Coons submitted SA 988, which is an amendment about protecting the sensitive personal data of United States citizens. As folks we have voted for, our officials need to keep our private information safe, and this document lays out a way to fund that effort without making the national deficit worse.

What It Aims To Change Or Add

This amendment adds a new section to title III of the concurrent resolution. Specifically, it aims to do the following:

  • Give the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate the power to revise budget allocations, aggregates, and other levels.
  • Allow adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to data privacy.
  • Focus on ensuring the protection of sensitive personal information of United States citizens held by the Federal Government.
  • Prevent individuals without proper authority from accessing systems used to store citizen data.
  • Ensure that the legislation does not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
