What this amendment would do
Mrs. Shaheen submitted amendment SA 965, which is intended to be proposed for the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025 and for fiscal years 2026 through 2034.
The purpose of this amendment is to add a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to correctional officer pay. It aims to give the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget the ability to make changes to budget allocations, aggregates, and the pay-as-you-go ledger. These changes can be made for legislation that focuses on keeping law enforcement compensation competitive.
Specifically, the changes can include increasing pay for Bureau of Prisons correctional officers or other Federal workers in localities categorized as rest of United States. For this to happen, the legislation provided for those purposes must not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
