As folks looking out for the common good and holding our officials accountable, we need to know what our elected leaders are trying to change in the law. This amendment was submitted by Mr. Paul.

What the Amendment Aims to Change

  • The amendment changes what is added to the bill by replacing the proposed text with new rules.

  • It adds individuals who are charged with, arrested for, convicted of, admit to committing, or admit to acts constituting burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, assault of a law enforcement officer, or any crime resulting in death or serious bodily injury to another person.

  • It adds individuals who are unlawfully present in the United States and who have voted in a Federal election in violation of section 611 of title 18, United States Code.

  • It redesignates paragraph (2) as paragraph (4).

  • It adds definitions stating that the terms burglary, theft, larceny, shoplifting, assault of a law enforcement officer, and serious bodily injury have the meanings given in the jurisdiction where the acts occurred.
