What this amendment would do

This amendment, submitted by Ms. Warren and Mr. Markey, aims to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund relating to protecting Massachusetts firefighters.

What It Aims to Change or Add

  • Allows the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Budget to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution.
  • Allows the Chairman to make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation relating to protecting continued access to grants and programs relied on by Massachusetts' fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations.
  • Specifically includes the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response program and the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program.
  • Requires that the legislation would not increase the deficit over the total of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
