What this amendment would do
As folks who care about honest government, we need to keep a close eye on what our leaders are doing with their money. Mr. Murphy submitted this amendment, known as SA 901, to the concurrent resolution on the budget for fiscal year 2025.
The purpose of this amendment is to create a deficit-neutral reserve fund that relates to the public disclosure of cryptocurrency investments.
It aims to add a new section to the bill that allows the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate to make adjustments for legislation relating to improving ethics in Government. This could include requiring specific people to publicly disclose certain cryptocurrency actions.
- The President must publicly disclose their cryptocurrency activity.
- Any employee serving at the discretion of the President, whether paid or unpaid, must also disclose.
- The disclosure applies to any hold, purchase, or sale of cryptocurrency totaling more than $500,000 during any 1-year period.
To make sure this does not hurt our nation's finances, any legislation passed using this fund would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
