What this amendment would do
As folks who care about how our government spends money, we need to keep a close eye on what our elected officials are putting on the table. Mr. Heinrich submitted SA 898, which is an amendment about electricity rates. Plain and simple, its purpose is to set up a deficit-neutral reserve fund.
What It Aims to Change or Add
-
The amendment adds a new section to the end of title III of the budget resolution.
-
It gives the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate the power to change committee allocations, aggregates, and other levels.
-
These changes can be made for legislation relating to residential electricity rates.
-
This can include things like home energy rebate programs or residential energy efficiency grant programs.
-
There is one big rule: the legislation cannot increase the deficit over the total period from fiscal year 2025 through 2034.
