What this amendment would do
This amendment, submitted by Mrs. Murray, asks for a thorough check on how our tax dollars and government resources are being handled. To keep our elected officials and government groups accountable, the amendment requests that the Comptroller General of the United States conduct a specific audit and report for the Senate Committee on the Budget.
Key Areas Covered by the Audit
-
Funding and Rules: It looks at the authorities and funding the U.S. DOGE Service Temporary Organization operates under, as well as its internal controls and compliance with federal and appropriations laws.
-
Hiring and Conflicts: It checks the hiring, vetting, and security clearance of everyone working or volunteering for the Department, specifically looking for conflicts of interest.
-
Personnel and Contracts: It reviews the appropriateness of actions taken by the Department to cancel contracts and change the status of federal employees.
-
Cost Savings: It requires estimates and 5-year and 10-year projections of cost savings realized by the Department, broken down by federal agency, activity, and budget function.
Reporting Timeline
-
Initial Findings: The Comptroller General is asked to provide initial findings to the Senate Committee on the Budget not later than 30 days after the resolution is adopted.
-
Final Report: The full review, audit, and report must be submitted to the Senate Committee on the Budget not later than 90 days after the resolution is adopted.
