What this amendment would do
As folks who want to hold our elected officials accountable, we need to know what is being pushed in Congress. This amendment, labeled SA 844 and submitted by Ms. Rosen, sets up a new rule in the Senate to protect the people we rely on at our airports.
Holding Officials Accountable
The main purpose of this amendment is to create a point of order in the Senate against any provision in a bill, joint resolution, motion, amendment, or conference report that reduces staff of the Transportation Security Administration at airports.
How It Works
- If a Senator points out that a measure tries to cut Transportation Security Administration staff at airports, and the Chair agrees, that harmful provision shall be stricken from the measure.
- This rule can only be waived or suspended by an affirmative vote of three-fifths of the Members of the Senate.
- It also takes a three-fifths vote to successfully appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this point of order.
