What this amendment would do

Look, folks, our elected officials need to be held accountable for helping working families make ends meet. This text is about SA 836, an amendment submitted by Ms. Rosen that deals with the congressional budget for the United States Government for fiscal year 2025.

What It Aims to Change or Add

The amendment adds a new section to the end of title III. It sets up a deficit-neutral reserve fund aimed at taking actions across agencies to help lower the costs of groceries for all working families.

How It Works

To make this happen, the Chairman of the Committee on the Budget of the Senate is allowed to revise allocations, aggregates, and other appropriate levels in the resolution. They can also make adjustments to the pay-as-you-go ledger for legislation that deals with lowering grocery costs.

The catch—and it is an important one to keep our government accountable—is that this legislation would not increase the deficit over the total period of fiscal years 2025 through 2029 or fiscal years 2025 through 2034.
