What this amendment would do
As folks working for you in Congress, we need to keep an eye on how our elected officials handle important programs. This amendment, submitted by Ms. Rosen, is all about protecting our veterans by setting up a strict roadblock against any funding cuts.
Here is what the amendment aims to do:
-
Create a point of order in the Senate that stops anyone from considering legislation, resolutions, motions, or amendments that would cut the Department of Housing and Urban Development and Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program (known as the HUD-VASH program).
-
Require a three-fifths affirmative vote of all sworn Senators in order to waive or suspend this protection, or to successfully appeal a ruling made by the Chair regarding this rule.
